Iko & J. Schmutzer (design), 1924-1926, Praying Angel (6), probably teak, dimensions unknown (no image available).
This is (another) small example of the praying angel, as Jos Schmutzer refers to it as “the little angel.” Apparently, he gave it to his sister. He writes: “So you like the little angel? Well, I can have Iko sign his signature in depth on copper, and then you can nail the copper plate underneath your statue. Then you don’t have to lug the statues around to get his signature!” Whether the copper plate was actually affixed is unknown. It’s also unknown whether the statue still exists or where it is located. Source: Letter from Jos Schmutzer to his sister Elise Anna Maria Antonia (Lili) Schmutzer, Buitenzorg 6-12-1926.
